Salsoul Orchestra

New York disco orchestra who helped to initiate the early days of the Salsoul label, along with the Salsoul sound. Produced and conducted by Vince Montana, Jnr. Their first album is sublime - all the tracks are excellent. "Salsoul hustle", "Chicago bus stop (ooh, I love it)", "You're just the right size" - they're all salsoul disco classics of their time. Their disco cover version of "Tangerine" made the US charts. No track from this first album was ever originally release as a 12".

The next album was almost as strong again - and they hit the US charts big this time with "Nice 'n' naasty". Also listen for "Don't beat around the bush" and "Standing and waiting on love". Further, more scarce and specialised albums followed throughout the 1970's, including songs like "Magic bird of fire", "It's a new day" and their superb instrumental version of Earth, Wind & Fire's "Getaway". Later discs also featured guest vocalists from the Salsoul label, like Loleatta Holloway on "Run away" and "Seconds".

The 12" of Nice 'n' naasty was mixed by Walter Gibbons. Some later 12" (like "West Side Story medley") were mixed by Tom Moulton and mastered by Jose Rodriguez.
