Ashford & Simpson
Soul singers, writers and producers Nikolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson. Produced and wrote
for many classic soul and disco acts in the 1970's and 1980's, including
Diana Ross ("The boss").
Recording under their own names too, they wrote some dance/disco tracks in the later
1970's which included the classic "Found a cure".
"Over and over" is a typically strong Ashford & Simpson track and was
covered by Sylvester. And no
mention of them would be complete with recalling their 1984 super-classic
"Solid". For the hustlers amongst you, try "Tried, tested and found true" and if you
like a boogie bassline listen to "Don't cost you nothing".
"One more try", "Tried, tested and found true" and "Over and over" were also released
as two early 12" singles and are all now rare collector's items. There is also a UK-only 12"
of disco classic "Bourgie bourgie" (covered by
John Davis & the Monster Orchestra and
Gladys Knight.
